L'église fut mise sous le vocable de saint Eutrope, évêque de Saintes et martyr, ancien patron de la paroisse. M. Martin (Etienne), alors curé de cette paroisse, avait demandé à Mr de Villecourt, évêque de La Rochelle, quelque parcelle des reliques de saint Eutrope ; il fut assez heureux pour obtenir ce qu'il réclamait. Cette relique fut placée dans l'autel, avec celles de saint Savinien et </ins>de <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">saint Potentien, martyrs et apôtres du Sénonais.
